So how do I get my makeup to actually last

Most commonly asked question since the creation of makeup (probably…anyway…)

Let's break it down step by step

Firstly…

SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS…

-If you are dry, your makeup will flake right off along with all that dead skin

-use a gentle toner or exfoliator to help with those dry patches

Hydrating toner

-Make sure to moisturize!

  • If you have dry skin, you may need to go for something a bit stronger like the GA-DE instant hydration gel cream.

  • Even if you aren’t dry; still moisturize, by using an oil free moisturizer on your oily skin, you are actually teaching your skin that it has enough moisture and can help it to stop producing all of that oil!

PRO TIP- Allow your moisturizer to set into your skin about 20 minutes before applying your makeup

Now… moving on to the eyes- again-

SET YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS…

-use an extra long lasting eyelid primer like this one below to help your eye look STAY PUT

Long-lasting eyelid primer

Once you are using a good eyelid primer, many eyeshadows can work… if you want to add a really long lasting shadow in addition (or if you’re skipping eyelid primer - DW, I won’t tell anyone) using a liquid, long lasting shadow can be a great tool in your kit like this one (Color “Born to beam” is my favorite- gorgeous shimmery nude- kiss n tell is also a great one if you like pinky- and is so super duper long lasting)

PRO TIP- for the longest lasting eyeshadow-

FIRST- Eyelid primer

THEN -Liquid shadow

LAST- Powder eyeshadow

If you are one of THOSE whose eyeliner NEVER lasts…you gotta try this- ask anyone who has used it- IYKYK (and that picture is of my eye, so I know it’s true!)

-PRO TIP- APPLY 2 COATS for even longer lasting power

Now, for mascara… this one is DANGEROUSLY AMAZING- like people will be wondering how you still have mascara on by that third day…no joke (oh and it also keeps your lashes curled!)

Long-wear waterproof mascara

And for my girls who are a bit extra… PRE-GLUED LASHES! Just rip them off the pack and stick them on- no black, sticky mess involved

(My personal favorites are the ones that are placed above my natural lashes- I find them more comfortable)

Pre-glued lash clusters

Now that your moisturizer has set and you are able to clean up that mess from mascara on your nose, let’s move to face makeup…

Your face WILL NOT LAST (unless you merit some miracle) if you are not using a long lasting primer + foundation SET (meaning they should work harmoniously and not against each other)

Just apply that primer, wait a minute, and then apply this foundation… and watch the magic happen (I guess it’s not that magical in the moment, but it will be once you realize what a difference these make)

Before setting your makeup, you can use a concealer to cover any imperfections. I’ll link my favorite one here. If you have a real bad zit you NEED covered, my little secret 🤫 I take that eye primer we were speaking about earlier and dab over that zit- it is a bit dry which is great- because those pimples have a special way of producing oils that make any other makeup just slide right off.

Now…. Don’t just let all that hard work just drip off your face (or evaporate or smudge or anything like that)

Take a setting powder and SET it!

-For the most powerful, long-lasting, full-coverage set, use a powder puff with the Saphyre setting powder

-For a lighter set, use the GA-DE one

BRONZER- this is an art! Because on the one hand we all (or a lot of us at least) like a gorgeous sun-kissed “I-just-got-back-from-Florida” look… problem is… you apply that bronzer like there’s no tomorrow… issue is- there is tomorrow- and on that specific “tomorrow” you can’t really fix up that patchy mess…

I have two suggestions- firstly- USE TANNING DROPS THE NIGHT BEFORE YT. This way, your tan develops over night (BEFORE applying your makeup) and when your makeup is half off two days later- it actually matched the color of your fake tan so no one even knows that your makeup is half off! (make sure you are using it on VERY well- moisturized skin, and wash your hands VERY well with soap directly after)

You’re welcome.

My next suggestion- use a lightweight, no-orange, non cakey bronzer like this one, and use it SPARINGLY

Lightweight non-cakey bronzer

SKIP CONTOUR IF YOU CAN- that usually is the first thing to look yuck on that second day of YT.

BLUSH- if you struggle with blush staying on…- BEFORE setting your face with setting powder, (or after- but be so careful to just gently pat) use your blush brush to GENTLY DAB a small amount of this cream blush (it’s actually color changing according to your ph balance!) . It will help create a “foundation” for your blush to stick.

LIFE CHANGER.

And… USE A LONG LASTING POWDER BLUSH like this one! Huh… You’ve never heard of a long lasting powder blush before? Me neither! Till I met this one!

Ahhh… lipstick… if only there was a lipstick that can last 3 days… but alas… I cannot promise magic, but I can tell you that our HANDS DOWN most popular product of all time is the static lipstick. People tell me ALL THE TIME that it lasts on them 3 days… I don’t believe them, because on me I’ll get two days max, BUUUUUT…. TWO DAYS FOR A LIPSTICK… I mean come on- have you found better??

PRO TIPS FOR YOUR LIPSTICK TO STRETCH IT AS LONG AS YOU CAN:

  • some find using that eye & lip primer from the beginning of this email helps before applying lipstick- I personally find applying to clean lips is the best

  • Apply 1 thin coat of lipstick

  • Let it dry COMPLETELY

  • SET with setting powder

  • Apply second thin coat

  • Let it dry COMPLETELY

  • Apply that clear gloss that cones on the other side

Last but not least.. you put all this work in until now! Dont skip setting your face (with a good setting spray!)

ANNNDDDD… if all else fails (or special circumstances 😉) - there is such a thing as “Shabbos makeup” which can be applied ON Shabbos/YT (ask your LOR- many allow it) just be sure you are using a NEW brush specifically designated for that specific color- no mixing or layering colors, and may only be applied to clean, dry skin.

Please let me know if any of these tips helped you! Have a BEAUTIFUL chag sameiach!
